Rights To Land Ownership

         The land you had settled and, the earth that surrounded this location, was a key dynamic involved between all the huddle groups being considered during this window of time. "Seisin" was the word for "legal possession of property". A "messuage" was the house and yard. A "virgate" was the land unit which could support a family. [These were terms that applied during this timeframe.] 

         Just what right did you have to claim ownership? Now, each team of players had their individual views about such topics! Let's see now.

         The Norman French, hereafter generally referred to as the Normans, began their claim on a promise. A single fellow who became known as "The Conqueror" started things off with the intentions and, the stated intent, to follow the last will of a relative named Edward (The Confessor). 

         The Saxons, hereafter generally called Anglo-Saxons, claimed their rights because of broken promises. Those initial island dwellers failed to keep their "promises made" to pay appropriately for all those helpers who were at first invited to the island. Broken promises to become the cause of our rights.

         The "Church" players held their rights by invitation. You come, you preach and, you convert, this will give you the rights to a parish among us. Pasturing and a pasture to be included. What a deal!

         The Celtic huddle groups began their rights through the agnostic system. Rights by inheritance through male descent. Lineage to the ninth generation by names please, was the accepted standard for your status as proprietor to land and earth. 

      

          

Nothing Left

        Recently, rediscovering a long-forgotten item from my childhood days at Granny Ewen's house, that brough smiles to my face. Remembering this, gastric juices producing, mouthwatering phenomena, just had to show a scan of this memory and, the memory of all the cookies along the way.

       Would bet that most folks from my own Jones surname ancestors had similar cookie jar memory's. However, at some point along the many hallways of time, we had to purchase our own cookies! What we chewed and, how much we chewed [that mastication process] was of our own choosing. A variety of options produced out of a whole bunch of different kitchens.

       Now the kitchens were of all sorts and kinds, often bring that mastication process for many from the stomachs to the minds. Say what! From the gastric juices to the thought juices. Well for me, my thought juices did take a more active role and, by my high school physics cookies' days (1968), the concept of "matter" did seem to matter a bit more then chocolate chips. 

       It was only a few years later that my college physics days (1971) announced "We are now introducing a new and very important type of process in which a 'fundamental' particle changes into other fundamental particles. This is often called a fundamental process" [p. 648 Physics Book, by K.R. Atkins]. Can't get much clearer than that in mental mastication.

       Well have we finally done it. All those particles and antiparticles. Now we are down to that photon and antiphoton throwing darts at one another. Matter and antimatter spinning away as the last cookie in our cookies jar? By now, old BIG -A- would be turning over in his grave!

        VOID ... in the cookies jar?

Into The Void

       My reading today led me to the following quote which seems much appropriate for the cosmos. It gives the name Pope which I believe is Sir Thomas Pope the founder of Trinity College, Oxford.

       This quote is taken from my reading source "American Dictionary Of The English Language" by Noah Webster, 1828. It was under the word for "VOID" which was my exploration of the day. Getting past "The New STRONG'S Exhaustive Concordance Of The Bible" [Largest Print Strong's for me] which on p.1489 states ... "the earth was without form and v .....Gen 1:2    922". 

       The 922 gives the reference number for the Hebrew word for void found on p. 17 [of the Hebrew section] given as  bo' -hoo "from an unused root (mean, to be empty)". Now, old Noah would add "not occupied with any visible matter". Well, there you have about got it. Then my quote of old Pope.

            "Pride, where wit fails, steps in to our defense, and fills all the mighty void of sense".

BIG - H and BIG - A

        Stopping my reading again this morning, to comment on the realization, that no matter what text contains the topic science, the name of BIG -A always seems to appear. Was reading "Early conceptions of heredity" [Britannica, vol. 19, p. 701] when, low and behold, there was BIG - A in all his genesis glory. What can one say? Just like BIG - H, who always appears when one contemplates thought as it was translated into rhythm so many epics ago! On and on it goes down the hallways of time, thought to rhythm or thought to reason. 

       Now from my own hero days of childhood, there was BIG - S (Superman) [see post titled "Super Heroes" of August 16, 2010] and, of course BIG - JP (John Paul Jones) being a Jones and all that [see post of December 28, 201]. Then came BIG - AX. That was Alexander the Great! Nothing he could not do once he mounted that big white horse and swung that mighty sword. Well, it was many years later that I realized that poor, old, BIG - AX, was actually a protoplasma of BIG - A! What a deal, BIG - A got into my childhood and, I didn't even understand the significance. Well by now, you have got to figure that BIG - A is Aristotle and, BIG - H is Homer. Arts and Science are the concepts. Not a think tank in existence today that calls itself a university that does not have a "College of Arts" (Homer) and, a "College of Science" (Aristotle). What a hoot my BIG - Owl announces just outside my window this 6th day of September 2025.

Compare Or Contrast II

       Having completed comments regarding each "huddle group" discussed among the recent posts, an updated figure might be in order.  The following table continues the diagram that shows the key topics discussed so far about the constitutional constructs. The first table is shown July 26, 2025 in the post, of course titled, "Compare Or Contrast". So here goes.

       The locker room begins this new table. It is followed by key terms often associated to the words just above. Many times, these words (concepts and their meanings) get mixed between all the huddle groups involved. For my own Jones surname family genealogy, understanding these distinctions made my own tree climbing experience a little brighter along the way.
